My first week of blogging
Apr. 27, 2007
I want to thank everyone in the blogging  community for welcoming  me to this new and very effective way of  communicating on the Web.   I was surprised to see that so many people were interested in this method of communication.  I have heard from people all across the Country and that has been a very pleasant and surprising experience to know that so many people across the state and Country might be interested in my position on various issues that affect our local community here in Guilford County.

The first week has been very exciting and I am looking forward to sharing information with you and you sharing information with me. My hope is that every elected official here in Guilford County will join me in an attempt to better communicate and share our opinion with the citizens of this County.  I know that at as I open myself up, there may be criticism, but  it is a price that  I am willing to pay in an attempt to be accountable to you  the citizens of this County and especially  my constituents in District 8.

I will try to maintain a daily blog during the week and on the weekends I will try to click around and get to know everyone a little bit better and to see what other bloggers are saying about issues they feel very close to and get busy building my blog roll.

Please continue to give me your input and advice on the matters that we will be acting on at our County Commissioners meetings.  We may not always agree, but at least we can let each other know what we are thinking and why.

Thanks again for the warm welcome and fasten your seat belt, and enjoy the ride.

Woolworth Musuem
Mr. Alston, would you please post a full accounting of the Civil Rights Museum ledger, including funding, dispersement and salaries?

The Citizens of Guilford County deserve to know why this project has been delayed for years and years. Numbers only please, we are educated enough to decipher them without your commentary.

Thank-You,
Concerned Citizen

Comments
I would like to welcome you to the blogging community. It's a shame the first comment had to be what it was. We all have things or people we favor for one reason or another but that doesn't mean we have to or should hurl insults or place labels on each other.

You are a duly elected official of all the people and your willingness to communicate with the people is commendable. People who place labels or insults, especially without the courage to identify themselves,
should be allowed to participate but viewed with caution.

Response to various comments
In response to the edit by Skip message in the comment above, I did not change anything. By being a new user I just went into the wrong place to respond and it left the marker.

However, in response to the comment that called me a racist, I can only say what I was taught by my first grade teacher. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never harm me." People will always try to label you and call you names. I have gotten use that over the pass 15 years as a public servant.

Also as new blogger, I have learned a new term, "don't feed the trolls" and we are not going to do that around here. We have to much serious business to talk about.

The Civil Rights Museum
The Civil Rights Museum is coming along fine. All funds have been accounted for more than a few times. We are audited annually by the State, City, and the County. Also the media has addressed our finances on several occasions and everything is in order.

However, if you would like more information you can call the Executive Director of the museum, Ms. Amelia Parker at 336-274-9199 she will be more than happy to answer any questions that anyone would have about the museum and it's funding. Also we will be glad to take a donation for the museum at that same number.
