Oh how we love the eternal optimists! The N&R as well as several bloggers and even some friends and acquaintances see Melvin “Skip” Alston’s defeat as President of the NC NAACP as his golden opportunity to “reform and become the leader he could be”. It will never happen. Never! Skip Alston certainly has the intelligence to be a superior leader, but he hasn’t the soul for it. He chose years ago to use his intelligence to enhance his power over others, to corrupt and control the Guilford County Board of Commissioners, to enhance his power and gain political influence on the state level thru the NAACP Presidency, to exploit and control his own race thru a Political Action Committee and to line his deep, deep pockets with funds from any source and thru any means. At this stage in his life, and with the success he has had being a manipulative scoundrel, he is not about to change tactics.

It was suggested that he challenge the results of the NAACP voting which put him out of office due to “voting irregularities“. This suggestion was made in part because of his seeming gracious and dignified acceptance of defeat, and his offer to help the new president all that he could. This is laughable. It was Melvin ‘Skip’ Alston who instigated the “voting irregularities”! And not only that but when his massive ego allowed him to finally realize that he just might lose the election he held the voting up for three hours while he tried to garner more votes.

But, you know, the world needs more optimist in rosy glasses, so keep dreaming and maybe someday your dreams will come true. I’m afraid that day not today and the man is not Melvin ‘Skip’ Alston.
